Printmaking Supplies:

Since 1898 the Edward C. Lyons Company has established a worldwide reputation for manufacturing high quality professional hand intaglio / printmaking tools. E.C. Lyons tools are hand crafted in the USA and made with the highest quality tool steels, which are hardened and tempered to hold their cutting edge, and are made to be re-sharpened. Working in harmony with the artist's imagination these tools will bring years of enjoyment and satisfaction.

Along with our extensive line of Printmaking tools you'll also find sharpening stones, sharpening fixtures, books, and a tool sharpening service.

The E.C. Lyons Co. strives to offer the worlds finest printmaking tools complimented by friendly and helpful customer service.

Since 2013, Matthieu Coulanges offers to printmakers tools optimized to their work: drypoints, burins, etching points, burnishers, scrapers, roulettes, multilines tools, woodcut/linocut tools... A craft that he practices in a technical innovating way and adding his own aesthetic sensibility.

The printmakers he meets teach him a lot about techniques and suggest ideas for optimizing tools. He explores the catalogs of varied suppliers to find products that will meet the specific needs of printmakers. Then he revise them to complete satisfaction.

The tools of Matthieu Coulanges are mainly sold on the internet as well as on printmaking fairs, for both professionals and amateurs. Several stores or workshops ensure the distribution especially in Paris, Barcelona, London and San Francisco.

In the late 1970's Robert McClain realized he could create a business importing and selling printmaking supplies from Japan. During the 1980's Robert McClain Japanese Prints & Supplies quickly became recognized as the leading supplier of superior quality art materials for Moku Hanga (Japanese-style woodblock prints) in the U.S.

In February 2001, Alex Prentiss purchased McClain’s. Under Alex's leadership, McClain's continues to offer the high-quality service, tools and printmaking materials that have made it the leading supplier for relief printmakers both here and abroad for over 40 years. Our purpose is to help relief printmakers find the materials and support they need to reach their printmaking goals.

“Together, We Make,” was produced in recognition and celebration of the interconnectedness and reciprocal inspiration present not only between our Speedball team members but also with the artist partners we serve. Each and every one of our products showcases the investment we have in people whether through the development and innovation that is informed, shaped and fueled by the insight collected through our artist partnerships or by way of the true craftsmanship exhibited in each hand-tooled, hand-inspected and hand-packed item. We are a company made of individuals committed to participating in our communities across specialty and technique in a way that is meaningful, genuine and that can act as a catalyst for trust and inspiration. This engagement allows our team to learn more about how to best serve our customers through our products and our team dedicates years, often decades, to honing their craft to allow us to continue to deliver consistently high quality products to your studios and classrooms. These collaborations will carry us forward well into the future and it is only with you and as a team that we can truly make something special. Together.

Since 1974, Takach Press has had the pleasure of working with the printmaking community to make some of the worlds finest printmaking supplies.  What started as a request from the Tamarind Institute to see if it possible to make a ball graining machine for the Institute, quickly turned into can you make a better lithography press.  In 1975 Takach Garfield Press was created.  Since then the name has changed to just Takach Press but the quality of our equipment has continued to improve.  With three generations of family members working together along with our knowledgeable staff to ensure that our products are of top quality in the printmaking community.
